If a large disaster hit your community, local agencies (police,
fire, and EMS) would be overloaded with responses.  The
Sumner County CERT Program is a hands-on approach for
individuals to help themselves in the event of a large
disaster.  This program will teach you how to help yourself, your family, and your neighbors in the
event of a serious disaster.
The CERT Program takes about 20 hours to complete and topics covered include; basic fire
suppression (fire extinguisher), basic first aid and triage, light search and rescue, understanding
terrorism, developing a home safety kit, and other factors for self protection.
The Sumner County CERT Program is an opportunity for citizens to learn how to be more self-reliant
in preparing for and surving after a disaster, and is also a way to becoming involved in volunteering
to help their communities.  Individuals completing the entire 20 hour program will be given the
option to join the Sumner County CERT Team which is on-call for disaster response.
If you are interested in attending CERT Training, please fill out the
CERT Registration Form and our
office will contact you about the next class, or you can call the Sumner County Emergency
Management Office at 620-326-7376 or toll free at 1-888-799-7376 for more information.
